Zorgo Consulting

Health & Public Services

Zorgo enables positive change.

We provide independent insights, advice, and change support – including strategy development; service design and improvement; deploying new technologies; and refining operations, systems, and workflow. If further help is needed, we can support you to commission the best value experts to deliver tangible results.

‘Zorgo’ is Esperanto for ‘care’ - the value that underpins all public services, and the basis for our approach to working with you. We’ll immerse ourselves in your context to support clinical/professional engagement and frontline change that is wide as well as deep. Simplicity is the key to sustainable and executable change in complex sectors - helping people to think and behave differently and empowering them with the tools to deliver excellent care.

Our experience spans central and local government, hospitals, primary care, community health and disability services, and social care in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom.

Key Capabilities

Strategy

Public services and their operating context are uniquely complicated. Cutting through the complexity and noise to get to the core of an issue or opportunity is key to change delivery. Our experience encompasses everything from developing new funding models, to facilitating multi-organisation consensus on the business case and risk sharing for joint investment, to developing national health strategies and policy.

We combine evidence based analysis with practical experience to engage clinicians, professionals, consumers, and other stakeholders. We’ll help you reach consensus on the root problems and develop a realistic roadmap for addressing them.

Service DEvelopment

Change is the only constant in the public services, but successful execution is challenging in complex, adaptive systems. We’ve successfully developed services ranging from supported housing to early/intensive intervention, to Hospital at Home - and all in highly fluid, fiscally constrained environments. Services often have to evolve into a new state rather than starting from scratch, and so frontline staff engagement and rigorous methodology is crucial.

Our approach is tailored to your context. We’ll assess the current state and stakeholder interests, and then help you plan, test, and embed changes using the most applicable change tools, such as project management, Lean, BPR, PDSA, and/or contestable procurement.

turnaround

When internal and external perceptions of performance diverge, the cause can be a sole manager who has taken their eye off the ball, through to a wholesale change in stakeholder expectations that have gone unnoticed by an entire organisation. Whatever the cause and scale of the performance gap, recovery requires specific positive capabilities, insights, and behaviours. We’ve helped services as diverse as prison health to Well Child to aged residential care to recognise, understand, and recover from failures.

We use a structured diagnostic process to help organisations understand their actual performance relative to expectations, and then work with them to build and embed the capability needed to succeed.

All improvement requires change, but not all change is improvement.
